Pathlab Background:
Pathlab Bay of Plenty provides diagnostic
laboratory services to the Bay of Plenty region. If you visit your
doctor, and laboratory tests are requested to help diagnose your
illness, the majority of these tests are free of charge, and will remain
so. However, some requests may not meet the criteria of diagnostic
testing, and you may be asked to pay for this service.
What are the criteria for free tests:
You must be a resident of New Zealand to
be eligible for free laboratory testing. All request forms must have a
valid National Health Number unique to you written on the form. Your
doctor has a record of this number. Only tests to help diagnose or
monitor a disease are free. Your doctor must write why these tests are
required on the form. All testing that is required for employment
medicals, pre-travel checks, wellness screening, annual check-ups and
visa requests will be charged to the patient.
